Well, it has happened to all of us at one point. We know we need one but do we know it and feel it? What is called our 30 second elevator speech is what we use to let people know what it is we do. How we market ourselves in the short timespan between where we are and the top floor. It’s that old question…. so what do you do?
Well our first mistakes are to make our speech too broad, not really getting to the depth of what we do in a timely fashion. We let our nerves get in the way, we lack confidence, or we just aren’t sure what to say.
First, make sure your 30 seconds are specific, let the person know exactly what you do. What is your unique purpose and expertise? If you are not specific people will not know where you are coming from or what it is you are trying to get across to them. When you are working from your passion and are clear on your goals, that is when the best results come to fruition.
Here are some examples that you hear:
1.      I am in marketing.
2.      I am a business marketer who helps people become successful and reach the top 5% of their field.
3.      I am a Business Marketer who helps people develop their businesses to increase their sales by 100%. My goal is to help 1 million small business owners and Entrepreneurs discover specific ways to increase their companies and improve their lives.
The first tells you little. The second is more factual and specific. Now the 3rd one lets you know who the person is, what they do more specifically of how they can help you, which is through knowledge about business building and through their passion.
Create your 30 second speech to be a clear reflextion of what you want people to know about you. Let them know what is in it for them. Let them know what they get with you. Does it save them time and money? Will help them reduce their risk? Will it help them spend less time working and more time relaxing while making the same money? Hit their hot buttons and see your results flurish.
Take time to run through your marketing, your 30 second blurb and all your marketing material and make changes if necessary to ensure it is saying exactly what you want to be telling people.
